How exquisite are these? M&D knows we can’t compete. May as well not even finish this post, because you’ll be picking up your mouse and scooting on over to the oh-so-clever Perth photographer Angela Higgins‘ website right now, won’t you? Wait, wait, wait. Be sure to peek at her blog too. Are they distant squeals of delight I can hear?

Ahoy there. Jeff Canham‘s art makes us happy as clams. A letterpress man himself, M&D are besotted by these enamel on wood works from his 2008 High Waters show. Whispers abound that Jeff will be exhibiting in Melbourne in 2010. Melbourne sure is closer than San Francisco, so we’ll keep you posted.

Wedding season is about to hit with full force. No need to panic as M&D have another two splendid sites for blushing brides-to-be.
100 Layer Cake is a beautiful blog overflowing with charming wedding ideas and do it yourself tips. If you’re a wee bit crafty you will find plenty of pretty to tickle you pink.
Offbeat Bride is the perfect inspiration for brides who are bored with traditional fare. It will have you ditching your silk pumps for rollerskates and boogying down the aisle to Dirty Dancing’s ‘The time of my Life’. M&D would like to thank the lovely Miss Marie (who commented on our last wedding post) for recommending this one. Ta poppet.

We have more than a weakness for woodgrain, so you can imagine our delight when woodgrain meets art. Audrey Kawasaki, Amy Sol and Tiffany Bozic are three very talented ladies who bring wooden surfaces to life with their exquisite paintings. Each artist creates their own whimsical worlds where seductive goddesses float in a dreamlike state (Audrey Kawasaki), cute girls befriend magical woodland creatures (Amy Sol) and haunting animals inhabit surreal landscapes (Tiffany Bozic). Swoon.

Miss Toni from Leederville’s Rohan Jewellery just lent us Lula, Girl of my Dreams and we’re not sure we’re going to give her back. This UK magazine is so so dreamy and not just because it has lashings of M&D fave font Kursivschrift. You might find it difficult to find the latest issue right here right now, but if you ask nicely, I’m sure Mag Nation will send you the next one for a fee. Off you pop, then.

I get swallows and sparrows mixed up. I’m never quite sure which is the little plumpy birdie and which is the sleek flying birdie with the split tail. Either way, you couldn’t be anything but pleased to see the two come together. This just in… Anna at Subiaco’s Mr Sparrow store (Shop 3, 223 Bagot Road) has these wooden veneer swallows from Frankfurt-based studio Taschide. Trust me, get in quick – they’ll be flying out the door (boom tish).

Isn’t it always the simplest ideas that are the loveliest? We spotted these paper garlands by Kristina Marie and for a nanosecond thought, we could do that. But really, who’s going to source vintage papers, painstakingly punch them out and stitch for hours? Not when you can go to Kristina’s online shop. And while you’re there, check out her Two-Hundred Two hand-sewn silk mobile, the result of 300 hours of work. Incredible. We definitely couldn’t do that!

It is no secret that Mitchell & Dent love Leederville’s Distracted Merchants of Fancy. Or if it is, then it is a very poorly kept one. We especially love it when the blinds come down and the ‘No Peeking’ signs go up, because come Tuesday morning, there will be handcrafted whimsy in the windows to wonder at. There’s something magical about window displays – I know as I’m the result of a union between a window dresser (my gramma) and a ticket writer (my grandad) who fell in love at the Boans Department Store. Visit Distracted at 324 Oxford Street to see the brand new Christmas windows or their Facebook page to peruse windows past.
