Hot-housed talent

Miss Otilee is one clever chick and a Perthonality to boot. Fashion photographer extraordinaire (see above) and one of the creative founders of Forks Open Doors, she writes a damn good blog here and here, sells artworks here, and is one of the very few gals in the world who can rock a tugboat hat. We’re terribly terribly cat-scratchingly back-bitingly jealous (oops, did I say that out loud?).

When I was a wee one, my Mum would take me shopping. We’d go to the butcher and I’d sit on the counter as he sliced the cold cuts and he’d give me a piece of polony and I would nibble holes for eyes and a smiley mouth and we’d go for a milkshake in a big shiny metal cup (I always wanted the red one) with paper straws just like these. How did you know Jack & Lulu?

Gratuitous animal illustrations from NZ’s Sarah McNeil. Nothing to say here (really, what could we possibly say?). Move along, move along. Off to Etsy you go.

Megadoily

An obsession with vintage doilies has seen Jean Lee from Ladies & Gentlemen put her crochet skills to good use. These full size area rugs are hand knotted with cotton rope using vintage doily patterns. We like it when people think big.

Beautiful happy things

Sandra Isaksson of Isak has the very best About page ever. Turns out she was brought up by trolls in a Swedish forest, sculpting clouds and painting rainbows, carving with wind and whittling snowflakes from Skybears. Her family found her pretty and plump and blueberry-kissed but she became terribly unruly, so they sent her out into the real world where she met a handsome fighter pilot prince and lives with him in England. Oh, and she designed this porcelain cup with an oak lid and you can get one from Gretel.

Secret seductive spy girl

Whilst we probably resemble yesterday’s post more than today’s, the mesdames all secretly wish they were Yuki-7, a la LA’s Kevin Dart‘s illustration.

Crazy cat ladies

Mitchell & Dent heartily recommend you purchase your most important paper procurements from cat people like themselves. Dog people simply want to be loved, whereas cat people know how to serve. And if you’re an incredibly talented mid century illustrator like Bernice Myers, please indulge us with more pictures of cats. Then Eric Sturdevant from Virginia can post more pictures on his illustration blog Fun All Around and we’ll all be purring with contentment.

Dining and drawing

Mesdames Mitchell and Dent were design school chums with Caroline from Perth’s  Champ + Rosie. Crazy creative then and even more so now, little miss most likely to succeed has brand new goodies in her online store, a blog that will keep you occupied for hours, and is such the designer’s designer that she goes out for duck and dumplings only to come home and draw them.

Waking up with the birds

How cute is this? Watch the video to find out how to turn your ordinary iPhone into a delightful little BirdBox alarm clock. Waking up to the sound of birds is sure to turn even the most stubborn of night owls into a morning person. Thanks LuckyBits and thanks DesignSponge for finding it.
