Meet me at the milk bar

August 15, 2010 / By The Mesdames / 2 comments

Some folks just aren’t into over-the-top declarations with seventeen bridesmaids, lit limousines that look more like a club than a car, fifty foot trains and puffy ruffles a’plenty. They prefer something simple and sweet and a little playful, just like Mitchell & Dent‘s Milk Bar wedding stationery suite. If you’d like to meet Mitchell & Dent at the milk bar, drop by the website, ask for the newest catalogue or order a sample pack. Sweet.

Sign of the oldy timey times

April 11, 2010 / By Madame Dent / Make a comment

[Insert whiny voice here] I want a hand-lettered sign from Three Potato Four. And I would also be eternally grateful if anyone who can tell me the name of a cringe-worthy zombie film I vaguely remember seeing at band camp (yes I was a high school arts geek, not much has changed). The zombies were bushy-browed, turtleneck-wearing sea captains. Of course, I never did have a good memory.

Froth and nonsense

January 19, 2010 / By Madame Dent / 1 comment

If you, like Mitchell & Dent, think there is a distinct lack of chiffon in cocktail dresses of late and worry that a Hervé Léger frock won’t look quite so flattering after your fourth bellini, try Beverly Hill’s Timeless Vixen Vintage. Wonderfully ridiculous silk and tulle and lace concoctions from days of yore when necklines were made for jewellery and skirts were made for dancing.

Duryea NY Resolutions

It’s time. Time to work on those new year resolutions. If you want a little inspiration, look no further than the folks of Duryea in Pennsylvania, USA circa 1961. As for us, Madame Mitchell is thinking she might perfect the practice  of folding dinner table napery into swans and Madame Dent plans to take up krumping. But if you have any suggestions for the Mesdame’s new year resolutions, go on – leave a comment. We’d love to hear them.

Blast from the past

Sasek

Ever seen something you had forgotten you ever knew about and it opens up some crazy trapdoor to the past? I recently spotted the re-issue of ‘This is London’ by Czech illustrator Miroslav Sasek in Distracted and was transported back in time. I loved this book. Almost as much as my little pink purse with the stuck-on white beads. And my Viewmaster reel of Yogi Bear. And my Spirograph set. And my Holly Hobby pillowcase… see what I mean?
