Mesdames Mitchell & Dent are very fond of a fiesta, a shindig, a soirée – even a sundowner. And whilst we disapprove of being invited by text, we don’t think every bash warrants bespoke letterpress stationery. DIY can be most delightful, so here’s some we prepared earlier… lovely invitations in little packs of 8, envelopes all included. Perfect for children’s birthdays, high teas, dinner parties and baby showers. You can find them at the Studio Bomba Shop.
(And to the lovely gal who popped in to see us on Sunday and to who I promised a blog post, apologies for my tardiness!)

One of us has just flown home from holidays. And try as she might to plough through a seemingly bottomless inbox of unread e-mails, it seems she is still away with the birds. Just like the altogether divine Handy Maiden.

The mesdames are not minimalists, in fact we are probably maximalists. We are very fond of knick-knacks, bric-a-brac, gewgaws and gimcracks. Bits and pieces, odds and ends, Oxford commas, and using five words when one would do. So for folks who twitter on a bit like we do, these completely useless but utterly lovely wooden birds in boxes might like to come to your home to roost?

Camilla D’Errico is a girl after my own heart, a night owl with a penchant for manga, anime and Hello Kitty. She also makes wonderfully whimsical paintings and has an online shop full to the brim with pretty prints and products.

A little warning from a red-faced and flustered Madame Mitchell – think before you google. An image search for something as seemingly innocent as ‘cute fat birds‘ came up with some surprising results. Although she did fare a little better than our friend Jane from Little Design Horse and Future Shelter (who, by the way, is speaking at Semi-Permanent10 here in Perth on Friday – go, book, now) who googled ‘man giving away carrots‘. So, be careful of the cute, it may not be all it seems. Brisbanites-in-Brooklyn Sniffle Co clearly understand.

We first met designer gal Jennifer Berney when she worked at local brand agency Block, but then she fell in love and was whisked away to Canberra. Lucky Canberra. Look what they get… screen-printed flora and fauna wonderfulness in homewares form. Thank goodness for online shops. Check out Jennifer’s Formosa website, her blog and of course, her online shop. Unlike other online purchases from Canberra, you can look the postman in the eye when these turn up in your mailbox.

Due to popular demand, Madame Mitchell created a set of perfectly pretty prints like the illustrations on our Mitchell & Dent website. Inspired by high tea and spring time, they would be a welcome addition to anyone’s mantle. Doesn’t your cat drink from vintage teacups too?

I wouldn’t dare set down my slice of cake on one of these lovely doilies (it wouldn’t last long enough to set down anyway). In limited editions of 25, these hand stitched pieces will sell like little hotcakes.

I have no idea how John James Audubon managed to get his subject matter to stay still. Maybe his past profession as a taxidermist helped matters along. Prints of his beautiful paintings are available for purchase here.
