Why do we love Perth?

August 27, 2011 / By The Mesdames / 5 comments

Why do we love Perth? We were asked this very important question by We Love Perth this week and if you’re wondering what we were going on about when we said there is an igloo in Kewdale, well here it is. See? How awesome is that? (Thanks for the pics Google Maps.)

Have your cake and eat it too

May 23, 2011 / By The Mesdames / 2 comments

Omigoodness. How wonderful is Rosie and her incredible site Sweetapolita?! For a gal who normally favours cheese over chocolate, I’m fast becoming a convert. Everything looks so incredibly delicious AND she tells you how to make them too. Yay Rosie! You’re making the world more beautiful, one fancy little cake at a time.

An adjective meaning of high quality

April 21, 2011 / By The Mesdames / 1 comment

Fine are in Sweden and make some mighty fine things. I don’t know how, but don’t you think these fine cutting boards (above) and these fine blocky-stripey things (below) go together just fine? I have a slightly-less-than-new nephew who might soon fine-d himself in a fine little hat. There is also a super Fine blog. It’s all top notch.

I resolve to

January 10, 2011 / By Madame Dent / Make a comment

Happy new year all. I don’t know about you, but I’m not foolish enough to make new year’s resolutions such as I resolve to lose half my body weight or I resolve to drink less gin and eat less cheese or I resolve to buy less silly things like cute shoes and more sensible things like insurance. In fact, I’ve pretty much blown all three of those already. I might, however, adopt a few from Motherland’s To Resolve Project as my own. Just the prettiest ones, of course. My iPhone thanks you and your illustrator friends Chris Steger.

The clever few

November 8, 2010 / By Madame Dent / Make a comment

Omigoodness. I don’t know where to start. I’ve been loving the blog A Beautiful Mess by Elsie Flannigan, choc-a-bloc full of vintage and creative crafty goodness and fashion. That alone would be enough, but then Elsie and her chum Rachel and sister Emma have just opened Red Velvet, a seller of vintage and pretty things and sweet shoppe combined. I want to go visit, but am sadly rather far from Missouri. Not to worry, there is a Red Velvet online shop, oh yay. Emma and Elsie pictured above thanks to Float Away Studios.

Gnome among the gumtrees

October 26, 2010 / By Madame Dent / 2 comments

I have English house guests which means I spent last week Down South. If you’ve not been before, it is a vey good place. Beaches, forests, wine, food, sun and of course, gnomes. Yes, gnomes. They hang out together near a roundabout on a quiet road in the Ferguson Valley. Hundreds of them. And I love every last little handpainted sign and cringe-worthy gnome-inflicted idiom (gnome sweet gnome, gnome away from gnome, gone gnoming, Harvey Gnoman). Oh, and this post is for the lovely Angie because I think she just might like it.

Heeeere’s Johnny

October 4, 2010 / By Madame Dent / Make a comment

According to the Johnny Two Tone Club, today is the International Day of Sputnik and we ought to be orbiting around a vodka-based beverage of our choosing in celebration. Or drying dishes with space and Sputnik-themed tea towels (the official gift of the season, clearly). And just who is Johnny? Well, we hear tell that they are a bunch of terribly nice and terrifically creative folks with an inordinate fondness for squeegees. And our sources are rather reliable.

Venturesome

It is possible that you know I’m a fan of the work or Katie Kirk and Nate Strandberg and their design studio Eight Hour Day, lovely lovely work. Well, they’re taking their show on the road for one year and have a new blog where you’ll be able to read all about their meanderings across the USA. Tally ho, then.

Oh lucky day

September 3, 2010 / By Madame Dent / Make a comment

From the moment I first spotted the Christmas tree above, I have loved the work of Jane Schouten, a Dutch designer who has the sharpest eye ever for vintage trinkets and treasures. She creates artworks and items for the home by cutting, pasting, painting, drawing, sewing and re-purposing found objects and collectables. I pop in to see her blog All the Luck in the World whenever I have a spare moment, which can be terribly dangerous because I also end up scooting all over the www looking at the things she finds wonderful. And then today, she announced that she has a brand new Etsy shop. Oh dearie me, I’m doomed.

Bewitching bulbs

September 2, 2010 / By Mademoiselle Michelle / Make a comment

Being a bridesmaid can be all consuming, particularly when you’re the maid of honour and especially when it’s your sister tying the knot. Constantly thinking about the perfect invitation or how to set the tables or which shade of pearly nail polish to wear. At least now we have some inspiration for the lighting (thank you Antonio and Silvia). Magical.
