These delightful little vessels are bud vases. They are made by Cynthia Vardhan. In fact, I’d be inclined to say they are so darn pretty they shouldn’t be sullied by that single-stemmed rosebud your cheap-ass boy bought you from the man with the green plastic bucket and the red-devil teddies while you were sharing a honey chicken and salt and pepper squid at Uncle Billy’s. But that’s just me.

And if full bling is beyond your means, why not go clay? We’re loving Norwegian Bea Hustoft‘s witty work.

Madame Mitchell works very hard, she is diligent in her daily duties. So much so that she often needs to be shooed from the studio at very late hours. She is definitely not a clock-watcher, but perhaps one set permanently to 5pm might help her get home on time, thankyou Misako Mimoko in Barcelona.
Madame Dent thinks it would be a good idea too – suddenly any hour of the day becomes cocktail hour.

Who knew afternoon tea could be so risqué? Dutch illustrator Esther Horchner, that’s who. Go on, live a little, abandon your inhibitions and maybe swap the Liptons for lapsang?

Fleur Schell is one clever little cookie. She is a ceramic artist maker and the Founding Director of SODA Studios in North Fremantle. She has worked all over the world and her pieces are held in collections near and far. We’re particularly fond of her most recent series The Excellent Adventures of Heidi, narrative pieces in porcelain inspired by her daughter. We take great pride in joining Fleur at SODA Gift 2010 this weekend, an invitational exhibition showcasing works by four ceramic artists from SODA and four invited guests including, you guessed it, Mitchell & Dent. Why not come along?
Open 10am to 6pm

Some things are surprising and not just that our lovely printer extraordinaire Mister Clifford is 50 today, but doesn’t look a day over 35 (or behave a day over 25). This Postfossil ceramic fruit bowl with a sneaky wooden chopping board underneath and wooden bottle vase with ceramic water well, for example.

Madame Mitchell is attending classes in ceramics. I can just picture her in an art smock with a scarf knotted on the top of her head. So elegant is she, she probably doesn’t even get clay under her fingernails. Madame Dent is much more mucky. She’d probably just go out and find a little something like this porcelain Annette Bugansky cup and make believe she made it herself.

This reminds me of my sister. She loves bunnies (which I have spoken about before here) and just this week she picked herself up a little bundle from the cabbage patch. If only those crazy tales about where babies come from were true, heh Jen? Might have been a tad easier. Still. My brand new nephew Austin might like this bone china bunny lamp from Sydney’s Have You Met Miss Jones? I don’t think it comes with cabbages though.

OK. I admit it. When I first saw the name ‘A. Speer Studio’, the thought did cross my mind that Adolf Hitler’s right-hand architect Albert Speer had somehow seen the error of his Nazi ways and switched to whimsical works of stoneware instead of stone monuments to the Third Reich. Then I realised he was dead. Sorry for the mix up Adrienne.
