Cutter

Wilhelm Staehle frightens small children. He also enjoys taxidermy and hand-cuts silhouettes. We’d like to meet him. We think.

Mesdames Mitchell & Dent are very fond of a fiesta, a shindig, a soirée – even a sundowner. And whilst we disapprove of being invited by text, we don’t think every bash warrants bespoke letterpress stationery. DIY can be most delightful, so here’s some we prepared earlier… lovely invitations in little packs of 8, envelopes all included. Perfect for children’s birthdays, high teas, dinner parties and baby showers. You can find them at the Studio Bomba Shop.

(And to the lovely gal who popped in to see us on Sunday and to who I promised a blog post, apologies for my tardiness!)

Open Thursday to Sunday, 10:30am to 6ish

An adjective meaning of high quality

April 21, 2011 / By The Mesdames / 1 comment

Fine are in Sweden and make some mighty fine things. I don’t know how, but don’t you think these fine cutting boards (above) and these fine blocky-stripey things (below) go together just fine? I have a slightly-less-than-new nephew who might soon fine-d himself in a fine little hat. There is also a super Fine blog. It’s all top notch.

The fête of fêtes

March 25, 2011 / By The Mesdames / Make a comment

We recently hawked our Mitchell & Dent wares at the Kyilla Primary School Fête and omigoodness, were we flabbergasted by the fundraising efforts of the folks involved. It was incredible. The fête and coinciding Celebrity Book Auction (40-odd celebs including the likes of Dawn French, Julia Gillard and Tim Minchin donated books, no less) raised something like twenty thousand dollars. It sure did make the soggy sandwiches, toffee cups, chocolate wheels and kewpie dolls of our childhood fêtes pale in comparison. It was the fête equivalent of super-charged kewpies with extra added cuteness, a bit like the ones from The Little Dröm Store.

Crafty

For crafty folks who are nifty with a needle, you might get a little thrill out of Ume Craft‘s shop of patterns for felt plush. In the shape of foods. How funny is felt food? That, and William Shatner singing Cee Lo Green’s ‘Fuck You’.

The cabbage patch

November 1, 2010 / By Madame Dent / Make a comment

This reminds me of my sister. She loves bunnies (which I have spoken about before here) and just this week she picked herself up a little bundle from the cabbage patch. If only those crazy tales about where babies come from were true, heh Jen? Might have been a tad easier. Still. My brand new nephew Austin might like this bone china bunny lamp from Sydney’s Have You Met Miss Jones? I don’t think it comes with cabbages though.

Heh babes

October 27, 2010 / By The Mesdames / 3 comments

The most exciting news. Mitchell & Dent are both brand new aunties and in the past twenty four hours too, due to a crazy turn of events. We’re so thrilled for our sisters and their partners and can’t wait to spend time cuddling Mademoiselle Georgia Mae and Master Austin, who are undoubtedly the most beautiful two babies we have ever seen.

Dancing shoes

October 15, 2010 / By Little Miss Fliss / 4 comments

I am sorely tempted to purchase a pair of these from Finnish folks Company. Missy Fliss Junior loves nothing better than to so see her Grandpa rock and roll at the local tavern on a Friday night and she bops around the dance floor with Mummy Miss Fliss. However, I do wonder if we can jive in them?

Little people’s photography

October 14, 2010 / By Madame Dent / 6 comments

This photograph was taken by Emma-Lee. It is an image of something very dear to her heart and will be a part of an upcoming exhibition here in Perth. Emma-Lee is five. YES! FIVE! I couldn’t take a shot like this now, let alone when I was five. In an exciting project co-ordinated by our very clever friend KT, the entire student body of two whole primary schools have explored the world of image-making; exploring themes of nostalgia, memory, textures, alternative ways of viewing and portraiture. We’re very much looking forward to the exhibitions.

Oh baby

September 28, 2010 / By Madame Dent / Make a comment

OK, so a little bit of a departure in subject matter for us, but as two aunties-in-waiting (not long now), Mitchell & Dent can’t help but occasionally dip our toes into baby-world. Especially when we were so fortunate to meet the very delightful Natasha and Daniel Dumais at Life InStyle, Melbourne-based designers of Ubabub. There were lots of reasons to stop and chat – brilliant brand design, incredible artwork for little ones, and THESE AMAZING COTS. And then I bumped into Natasha on Pinterest last week and if you want more eye candy, go take a peek at her pins.
