Holiday frocks

January 11, 2011 / By Madame Dent / 2 comments

I bought a dress on my holiday and it is in a fabric called Holiday. That is it there in the middle. It has pictures on it of other people enjoying their holiday, with palm trees and sun umbrellas and little pink flowers (and I’m assuming passionfruit gelato with white nectarines and strawberries). The Holiday frock is from Lazybones, how appropriate. They make these dresses in sizes XS to XXL. Holiday, *sigh*. We are no longer on holiday. Just saying.

Dress for dinner

Aaah, Very Purple Person, I get it. These ridiculously adorable cotton dresses that you make have something very important in common. They’re all ideal for the silly season, when a seventeen rumball dessert course is nothing out of the ordinary. You let our ballooning bellies be beautifully disguised. How sweet of you.

Got us pegged

Trudy and Andy are the clever couple behind Perth’s Mokoh, who make prints and paperwares and all-round prettiness. What I really love is that they are originally from England and yet they make some of the most Aussiest (is Aussiest a word?) of Australian design. I bet they’ve even been to more than a handful of these places, unlike lazy ass me. Heh! I can get the tea towel.

Heeeere’s Johnny

October 4, 2010 / By Madame Dent / Make a comment

According to the Johnny Two Tone Club, today is the International Day of Sputnik and we ought to be orbiting around a vodka-based beverage of our choosing in celebration. Or drying dishes with space and Sputnik-themed tea towels (the official gift of the season, clearly). And just who is Johnny? Well, we hear tell that they are a bunch of terribly nice and terrifically creative folks with an inordinate fondness for squeegees. And our sources are rather reliable.

She’s got form

September 12, 2010 / By Madame Dent / 1 comment

We first met designer gal Jennifer Berney when she worked at local brand agency Block, but then she fell in love and was whisked away to Canberra. Lucky Canberra. Look what they get… screen-printed flora and fauna wonderfulness in homewares form. Thank goodness for online shops. Check out Jennifer’s Formosa website, her blog and of course, her online shop. Unlike other online purchases from Canberra, you can look the postman in the eye when these turn up in your mailbox.

Clever little minx

Ann-Marie moved to Pennsylvania where antique stores abound, so she decided to stop making skin tight garments covered in cheap lace and instead make beautiful wearable vintage-inspired dresses, shirts and skirts for going on adventures in. So glad she did.

Loose leaf

In primary school I always remember having to rule my own margins in my text books before writing. Even with a ruler I still managed to get the lines a little wonky, a little imperfect, just like these tees.

Eggbaconchipsandbeans

Yes, I said chips. Madame Dent‘s printer paramour Mr Clifford Esq. and his chums established Perth’s own Club EBCB in honour of the greatest book ever written in their opinion - Egg, Bacon, Chips and Beans: 50 Great Cafes and the Things That Make Them Great by Russell Davies – a homage to British caffs (like Bridport’s Cafe Royal above), the Futura typeface and the lone pea (if you can spot it). Guess who’s getting this teatowel from Manchester’s Mr PS come Christmas?
