Something biscuity

You might remember the great Custard Cream post fest of 2010 here on Tittle Tattle (here and here and here and here). Just guess how we feel about Nikki McWilliams then?

She’s got form

We first met designer gal Jennifer Berney when she worked at local brand agency Block, but then she fell in love and was whisked away to Canberra. Lucky Canberra. Look what they get… screen-printed flora and fauna wonderfulness in homewares form. Thank goodness for online shops. Check out Jennifer’s Formosa website, her blog and of course, her online shop. Unlike other online purchases from Canberra, you can look the postman in the eye when these turn up in your mailbox.

Mag-nolia-ificent

I know I know, that title doesn’t quite work, but I needed to get into the guts of this post quick smart. No time for tweaking the twee, as there is an awful lot to tittle and tattle about. If you’ve been living under a rock, you may not know that Mitchell & Dent went to Melbourne last week to hawk our wares at Magnolia Square (we did go on about it a bit). And omigoodness, there were so many good things there by good people that impressed our good selves. Here is a little taste of the goodness (from top to bottom)….

Melbourne’s A Skulk of Foxes make crazy good silver, timber and acrylic jewellery.

Angus & Celeste make jewellery and homewares, but we most loved these porcelain bottle vases decorated with botanicals native to Victoria’s Dandenong Ranges.

A treasure trove of vintage papery goodness from Green Olive – prints and stationery items made out of rescued children’s books from days gone by.

More midcentury-meets-paper wonderfulness, this time from South Australia’s Delilah Devine. Love the flying duck plaques covered with vintage wallpapers.

The mesdames must confess, we ate a whole host of Michel’s Fine Biscuit Co‘s wares. We heartily recommend the hazelnut shortbread and the ginger and almond buscuit with a lemon myrtle-infused white chocolate filling.

And finally, having just driven by the old Skipping Girl Vinegar sign in Victoria Street, it was really nice to see her emblazoned on homewares by Make Me Iconic. Swoon-worthy souvenirs.

We want to say a giant thankyou thankyou thankyou to our lovely friend Michelle who helped us out so much in Melbourne – our guide, our taxi, our handyman, our tea-lady, our support and our cheerleader. You’re tops, Shells.

And to three ladies who made our day by coming to say hello – you know who you are Belgian Nancy, Tanya from T&J and Sylvia. Very nice to meet you.

Undercover

Madame Mitchell is relishing in Perth’s prolonged cold spell. She enjoys a brisk walk on a dewy morning, happily cooks up hearty winter-warming soups and thoroughly enjoys an evening inside crocheting granny squares by the dozen.

Madame Dent is not so jolly. There are only so many days she can stop in bed with the cats and a hot toddy before being accused of being a lazybones.

Chi chi chenille

Oh chenille, forgotten fabric of the past, hello again. What have you been doing since the 1970′s? No matter. It is nice to see your sometimes-tufty, sometimes-taut textile-y self back all over bedspreads, dressing gowns and pillows like this one from The Pink Palace. You put the fancy into frou frou.

Itsy bitsy animals

March 17, 2010 / By Madame Dent / Make a comment

While we’re stuck on cute here at Mitchell & Dent, can we get any cuter than these animal pillows from Pennsylvania’s Vintage Jane? Almost more exciting than the illustration is the chenille backing. Chenille, oh forgotten fabric from days of yore, how we missed you. Did you know ‘chenille’ is ‘caterpillar’ in French? Would we lie to you?
