Mesdames Mitchell & Dent are very fond of a fiesta, a shindig, a soirée – even a sundowner. And whilst we disapprove of being invited by text, we don’t think every bash warrants bespoke letterpress stationery. DIY can be most delightful, so here’s some we prepared earlier… lovely invitations in little packs of 8, envelopes all included. Perfect for children’s birthdays, high teas, dinner parties and baby showers. You can find them at the Studio Bomba Shop.

(And to the lovely gal who popped in to see us on Sunday and to who I promised a blog post, apologies for my tardiness!)

Studio Bomba Shop
Open Thursday to Sunday, 10:30am to 6ish

The fête of fêtes

March 25, 2011 / By The Mesdames / Make a comment

We recently hawked our Mitchell & Dent wares at the Kyilla Primary School Fête and omigoodness, were we flabbergasted by the fundraising efforts of the folks involved. It was incredible. The fête and coinciding Celebrity Book Auction (40-odd celebs including the likes of Dawn French, Julia Gillard and Tim Minchin donated books, no less) raised something like twenty thousand dollars. It sure did make the soggy sandwiches, toffee cups, chocolate wheels and kewpie dolls of our childhood fêtes pale in comparison. It was the fête equivalent of super-charged kewpies with extra added cuteness, a bit like the ones from The Little Dröm Store.

Who’s the Bosse?

December 6, 2010 / By Madame Dent / 3 comments

Excuse the little lull in posts but yours truly has been at home with a monster sniffle, moaning about bad daytime telly and staring at the walls. If only I had more things to look at, like these brill bronzes by Walter Bosse and his missus Herta Baller. If you can’t find the midcentury originals, don’t fret. They are still being made in a sleepy snowy town on the Austrian-Hungarian border. Hurrah Modern Vienna Bronzes!

Madame loves Monsieur

I am a sad fan of Matte Stephens. The reason it has taken me so long to tell you what I love about him is because I’m a ditherer. I can barely choose from a menu without the fear of meal envy, so deciding which of his works to show is a near impossible task. By choosing one or two or three favourites means a few dozen more equally wonderful works are neglected. But then, in my quarantined snufflehead state last week I revisited my favourite film from childhood – Mon Oncle – and the decision was made. You’ll be delighted to know Matte Stephens artworks are available from Perth’s brand new Outré Gallery in William Street.

Bullish

The mesdames Mitchell and Dent are known for being cat people, but my interests lie somewhere in the middle between cats and dogs… given a recent purchase of cute IKEA fluffy rats, I’m toying with the idea of trying to get used to the possibility, of maybe, perhaps, purchasing a pair of real rats for my near 6 year old, when she is 7. Possibly. I have a year and 31 days to consider this. In the meantime, with rats in mind, I did find this picture of a French bulldog rather cute…

As you know, Mitchell & Dent are cat people, so we’re not too concerned if buying this Muttropolis play toy for your dog makes him look a little silly.

Itsy bitsy animals

While we’re stuck on cute here at Mitchell & Dent, can we get any cuter than these animal pillows from Pennsylvania’s Vintage Jane? Almost more exciting than the illustration is the chenille backing. Chenille, oh forgotten fabric from days of yore, how we missed you. Did you know ‘chenille’ is ‘caterpillar’ in French? Would we lie to you?

Adorascopes

Two dogs, a goat and a monkey. You wouldn’t think they would get along, but in the marvellous medium of crayons Team Mitchell & Dent are actually dandelion, green-yellow and blue-grey and that is a damn nice colour palette. US-Vietnamese artist Diem Chau‘s delightful and delicate horoscope carvings are a testament to her steady hands and her blog is a testament to The Pleasure of Tiny Things.

Cute fest

Mittens. Ladybirds. Jam tarts. None of these things are quite so cute as London’s Me Me Me‘s ceramics.
