Mesdames Mitchell & Dent are very fond of a fiesta, a shindig, a soirée – even a sundowner. And whilst we disapprove of being invited by text, we don’t think every bash warrants bespoke letterpress stationery. DIY can be most delightful, so here’s some we prepared earlier… lovely invitations in little packs of 8, envelopes all included. Perfect for children’s birthdays, high teas, dinner parties and baby showers. You can find them at the Studio Bomba Shop.
(And to the lovely gal who popped in to see us on Sunday and to who I promised a blog post, apologies for my tardiness!)

We first met designer gal Jennifer Berney when she worked at local brand agency Block, but then she fell in love and was whisked away to Canberra. Lucky Canberra. Look what they get… screen-printed flora and fauna wonderfulness in homewares form. Thank goodness for online shops. Check out Jennifer’s Formosa website, her blog and of course, her online shop. Unlike other online purchases from Canberra, you can look the postman in the eye when these turn up in your mailbox.

Madame Mitchell is relishing in Perth’s prolonged cold spell. She enjoys a brisk walk on a dewy morning, happily cooks up hearty winter-warming soups and thoroughly enjoys an evening inside crocheting granny squares by the dozen.
Madame Dent is not so jolly. There are only so many days she can stop in bed with the cats and a hot toddy before being accused of being a lazybones.

Mitchell & Dent were faced with a dilemma recently. The lovely Luann, maker of the most divine arrangements, left our florist of choice and in her wake, so did our loyal patronage. We’ve been experimenting with new florists for a few months to no avail. Then we heard tell of Rebecca Grace and her studio Natural Art. So blooming lovely and with the most easy peasy of online ordering systems.

Having noticed a serious lowering in the standards of tea party etiquette of late, M&D feel the need to share their top tips for the proper drinking of tea.
- One should avoid striking the side of one’s teacup with the spoon when stirring as the sound is most unpleasant.
- One should never (ever) protrude one’s pinky whilst sipping tea.
- The spout of the teapot should always face toward the host or hostess.
- Traditional tea time is four in the afternoon, however any time between two and five is acceptable.
- A tea party is not complete without scones, cupcakes and cucumber sandwiches.
- Unattractive tea sets are simply inexcusable, especially as Fiona from Antiquitea right here in Perth has such pretty porcelain for hire (as shown above).

I have been coveting these cute frocks by Sohomode for the past six months. The only thing that has stopped me ordering a custom tea dress is the dilemma of deciding which fabric (visit the library, you’ll see what I mean). I also wondered how it might look on a gal like me, who has not only kept her girlish figure but added to it. Then the lovely Lilli from Frocks and Frou Frou, the best fashion blog for curvy gals, showed me. Sohomode, here I come.

Our Mitchell & Dent studio walls are bare, we know. Not by design but through a lack of design. How the heck can anyone decide what to surround themselves in, when folks like Trove from NYC keep coming up with large image wallpapers like Indi (left) and printed wood veneer wallpapers like Alcyone (right)? Clearly it is some kind of wonderful torture.

On the other side of the world to us, but clearly Madame Mitchell is not ready to let the warm weather go and face autumn. She has made these wonderful prints of her original ink and graphite artworks on tea-stained paper available through our little online shop Mitchell & Dent. Mind you, Madame Dent is just a little concerned about what kind of shampoo Madame Mitchell uses.

Felt flowers to gasp over, all meticulously hand sewn by Becci who lives in a yellow house in St Louis with a husband, a dog and a cat – two of whom don’t get along. You’ll just have to go visit her Dashing Etc shop and her blog to find out which two (hint: her husband isn’t one of them).
