Hey presto, Blendo

September 14, 2010 / By Madame Dent / 7 comments

Now that the weather is warming up and we’re heading into prime Pimm’s season, it is time to get your swizzle sticks out. The mesdames are very excited to see a resurgence in midcentury Blendo glass. First made by the West Virginia Speciality Glass Company, it can now be nabbed for nearly nix. Not for long though, best get in while the going’s good.

Here’s some we found on Etsy…
1. punchbowl and glasses from Hydrangea Row
2. cocktail shaker from Vintage Home Recycled
3. highballs from Swanky Lady Vintage
4. bowl set from Plaid Pony Vintage
5. tumblers from Ione’s Attic
6. pitcher and glasses from Betty’s Kitschen
7. chip and dip set from Ugly Santa
8. highballs from Blue Bernice Vintage
9. salad bowl and cruets from Rust Belt Threads

Jarred

September 1, 2010 / By Madame Dent / 1 comment

I’m not sure when Mason jars became the belle of the ball, but they’re clearly wearing the sash and tiara and lording it over the plain girls. You can’t move in girlie-blogland without stumbling across gorgeous pics of twinkling tealights in Mason jars, beautiful blooms in Mason jars, cute little animals in Mason jars. I thought I had seen it all until I saw these red velvet cupcakes in Mason jars on the Cakies blog. Recipe and all. Jarring, huh?

One green bottle

So. Here at M&D we are completely addicted to Pinterest (more about that in the days to come), but this is how the wonderful web works… the very clever Dana Hughes, interior designer in Sydney and creator of the inspirational design blog Yellow Trace (go! see!), posted these amazing hand blown glass bottles by New York designer Elizabeth Lyons on Pinterest and we fell in love with them and posted them for you to see. We love the internets.

Full circle

March 23, 2010 / By Madame Dent / Make a comment

It is one of those days where I am going round and round in circles and not getting much done, not even calling our landlady after our studio turned into a giant colander in yesterday’s storm. I need this circle of vintage maps and charts from London’s Bombus to show me where to go.

Tomorrow’s heirlooms

LightlyButterfly

There is nothing more lovely than a dinner table adorned with fine china and now we can start displaying these delicate homewares on our walls too. Melbourne-based design house Lightly create new treasures from old crockery and vintage glassware. These butterflies are individually cut from upcycled saucers, making each piece different from the next. I know what I will be adding to my Christmas wish list.
