Waiting in silence

August 25, 2010 / By Madame Dent / Make a comment

Ian and Erick Regnard from Tungsten are two of the loveliest Perth-based world-renowned French Mauritian photographer twins you’re ever likely to meet (and isn’t the world awash with Perth-based world-renowned French Mauritian photographer twins?!). We’re so thrilled to hear that they were recently named a finalist in the International Photography Awards 2010 International Photographer of the Year – that’s way more prestigious than a Gold Logie, don’t you know? Their image Waiting in Silence was selected from nearly 15,000 submissions from 103 countries to be in the running and they’re off to NYC in October to find out who the winner is. Read all about it on their blog. And go look at their work. It is breathtakingly good.

Take me out

Apologies to all who I am about to offend – I don’t know anything about baseball, have very little desire to know anything about baseball, and could barely keep a straight face last night when I caught two US commentators on Channel Go discussing the merits of the new hotdogs added to the Phillies ballpark hotdog stands. I do however, quite like this handmade ball from Bergino. It has a map on it. And their brandmark is lovely. Feel free to complain about me… now.

Dresses to drink tea in

May 29, 2010 / By Madame Dent / 4 comments

I have been coveting these cute frocks by Sohomode for the past six months. The only thing that has stopped me ordering a custom tea dress is the dilemma of deciding which fabric (visit the library, you’ll see what I mean). I also wondered how it might look on a gal like me, who has not only kept her girlish figure but added to it. Then the lovely Lilli from Frocks and Frou Frou, the best fashion blog for curvy gals, showed me. Sohomode, here I come.

Enchanted, I’m sure

Marisol Spoon are a mister and missus living in NYC. I’m surprised. With the fairytale sweetness of their wonderful work, I was certain they lived in a gingerbread cottage in the misty mountains, surrounded by frolicking foxes and cavorting kittens, dining on strawberries and drinking dandelion wine.

Beary nice

Isn’t she? This is Ursa the Bear. I like bears, better than Goldilocks anyhow. I’ll never understand how that binge-eating, narcoleptic, petty thief got to be the heroine of the story. Designer David Weeks clearly prefers bears too.

Children and animals

I do love these images of children and animals by photographer Maxine Helfman. They are too too lovely and really quite creepy. Am I allowed to say that about a child? I’m not sure. I think I can say that about a goose though. I’ve never liked geese. They’re far too pecky and flappity.
