Worried that your mantle will let you down this Christmas? That you won’t have enough cards on it to adequately reflect how popular and cool you really are? Well, Domestikate have got you covered. You can subscribe to their Christmas card list and receive a photo card every December for the next six years. They’ll be your ‘kooky, new, insta-friends’.

The penpal project

October 6, 2010 / By Madame Dent / 1 comment

I cannot tell you how happy this blog post makes me. Well, actually I can. As happy as a clam, as happy as a lark, as happy as a dog with a dozen tails… getting this postcard from my childhood penpal is even better than a pop tune with double hand claps. I have had the great fortune of spending time with clever chick Gemma Jones this year (read all about Miss Gem here and here), both in her home town of Melbourne and my home town of Perth, 3400-odd kilometres apart. We chatted about how excited ten-year-old us got when a letter arrived and thought, hey why not? Let’s do it again. And share via our blogs. And because Gemma is not the ditherer that I am, she sounded the starting pistol and got stuck in. Yippity. Now, if I could just find my sparkly pen and Garfield notepaper.

Special delivery

Take a teeny little letter miss post m’am and put it your teeny little sack (apologies to Elvis – but really, what does he care?). Lea Redmond is Postmaster of the World’s Smallest Postal Service. She sets up her teeny little post office in cafes and shops in San Francisco, hand writes teeny little letters at her teeny little desk, seals them with teeny little wax seals, packages them in teeny little white post sacks with teeny little magnifying glasses. Online orders also welcomed.

Next time I go to the Royal Botanical Gardens, I won’t just send you a postcard, I’ll send you some garden. It’s like reality TV for the postcard industry. Up there for thinking, green thumb stationers Postcarden.

Take a letter

We’re fans of  ReForm School‘s online shop here, but it is thanks to the eagle-eyed Irene at M&D’s favourite blog Bloesem, that we found their Pen Pal Club. Send your name and address details to rollcall@reformschoolrules and you can correspond snail-mail style with folks all over the world. The cutest of cute ideas. What’s a stamp, again?
