Bewitching bulbs

Being a bridesmaid can be all consuming, particularly when you’re the maid of honour and especially when it’s your sister tying the knot. Constantly thinking about the perfect invitation or how to set the tables or which shade of pearly nail polish to wear. At least now we have some inspiration for the lighting (thank you Antonio and Silvia). Magical.

Born with a silver bone china spoon

April 12, 2010 / By Madame Dent / Make a comment

I have 80% of half a new kitchen and my weekend chore was to empty the old cutlery draw into the new cutlery draw. In the midst of abandoning a decade’s worth of chopsticks, I found my long lost baby spoon and was instantly transported back to childhood. My sister’s baby spoon had a kitten on it and I was always secretly jealous, but with hindsight, I lucked out. Mine is silver and more traditional, shaped a bit like one of these beautiful bone china spoons by Caroline Swift. You can also read about her in the latest issue of Dumbo feather, pass it on. Inspirational. Glorious.

The promise of rain

February 8, 2010 / By Madame Dent / Make a comment

The weather man promised us a little rain here in Perth, Western Australia and we’ve not seen hide nor hair of it yet (2mm in Mt Lawley? bah humbug!). Thanks Ingo Maurer for this art installation, thanks Jesús Manuel Nieto Bobadilla for your free-use image, thanks Brook Hall for your edited version, kindly made available for downloading and printing and framing and gazing at… the trickle-down effect in action. If the internet can do it, why can’t you little rain clouds?

The little things

February 2, 2010 / By Madame Dent / 2 comments

At the end of a day where things just didn’t go to plan or any sort of timetable I had in mind at 8am, Blanca Gómez‘s cheery happy lala illustrations are almost as uplifting as a wee G&T. After all, it is the cosas mínimas that count.
