What goes on tour

January 25, 2011 / By The Mesdames / 2 comments

So exciting, our mesdames Angela Mitchell and Leah Dent were invited by Lomography Australia / New Zealand to contribute to a leg of the Diana World Tour 2011. We may have given you a sneak peek, do you remember? Along with inspirational artists including friends and faves such as Gemma Jones, Beci Orpin, Cat-RabbitGhostpatrol and Eveline Tarunadjaja to name a few, our bunnycam will be one of 25 shown in Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland as part of the Customised Clones Exhibition. Importantly – and listen up now  – they will all be auctioned online to raise funds for See Through Me and World Child Cancer. Bidding starts February 3rd, we’ll be sure to keep you updated.

The cabbage patch

November 1, 2010 / By Madame Dent / Make a comment

This reminds me of my sister. She loves bunnies (which I have spoken about before here) and just this week she picked herself up a little bundle from the cabbage patch. If only those crazy tales about where babies come from were true, heh Jen? Might have been a tad easier. Still. My brand new nephew Austin might like this bone china bunny lamp from Sydney’s Have You Met Miss Jones? I don’t think it comes with cabbages though.

You muppet

September 13, 2010 / By Madame Dent / Make a comment

In the Mitchell & Dent studio, we discuss important things while we are working. Things like, “which muppet do you most resemble?”, being sure to make the important distinction between The Muppet Show and Sesame Street. Our SS conclusions? Mademoiselle Michelle is as sweet and smart as Prairie Dawn, Little Miss Fliss is organised and particular and a lover of purple like Telly Monster, Madame Dent is a klutz and a bumbler and a ditherer so Grover it is, Madame Mitchell could only be Big Bird (tee hee) and Mister Clifford, printer extraordinaire, is the voice of all reason – Kermit. We may buy him this artwork by Castle in Sydney, makers of embroidered artworks and brilliant bed linen. So, which muppet are you?

Haber-dashing

September 8, 2010 / By Madame Dent / Make a comment

At Mitchell & Dent we torture ourselves via e-mail. Not ours, but via the mailing lists of people who sell lovely things we can’t possibly make our own. Like David Met Nicole‘s. Today they sent us an e-mail and in amongst their glorious vintage homewares was this English haberdashery drawer unit. Sadly, it is out of our budget and made more so by being in Sydney. But look how pretty it is. Wouldn’t it be perfect for our studio? See? Pure pretty perfect torture. Sadists.

Undercover

July 19, 2010 / By Madame Dent / Make a comment

Madame Mitchell is relishing in Perth’s prolonged cold spell. She enjoys a brisk walk on a dewy morning, happily cooks up hearty winter-warming soups and thoroughly enjoys an evening inside crocheting granny squares by the dozen.

Madame Dent is not so jolly. There are only so many days she can stop in bed with the cats and a hot toddy before being accused of being a lazybones.

Fruitful

For me, watermelons make me think of drunk boys at the cricket who wear them as hats. For ceramic artist Samantha Robinson, not so much.

Make believe

These little lovelies have been cleverly crafted by Sydney-based illustrator Kareena Zerefos. Capturing the imaginary worlds of children with pen, gouache, tea and ink, who wouldn’t want to see a flying elephant on their wall?
