The murderer

March 22, 2011 / By The Mesdames / 2 comments

Our chums Dan and Bec from Studio Lost & Found found this brilliant little series of dioramas with hand-lettered type by Aled Lewis in London. We love them, especially this one, and not least because Mr Lewis seems to share a similar sense of humour to us (go here and be sure to look at the back). Dumb bunnies. But as Aled says, what rabbits lack in smarts, they make up for in cute.

Little people’s photography

October 14, 2010 / By Madame Dent / 6 comments

This photograph was taken by Emma-Lee. It is an image of something very dear to her heart and will be a part of an upcoming exhibition here in Perth. Emma-Lee is five. YES! FIVE! I couldn’t take a shot like this now, let alone when I was five. In an exciting project co-ordinated by our very clever friend KT, the entire student body of two whole primary schools have explored the world of image-making; exploring themes of nostalgia, memory, textures, alternative ways of viewing and portraiture. We’re very much looking forward to the exhibitions.

Oh, diddums

May 7, 2010 / By Little Miss Fliss / 1 comment

Imagine my surprise when I found out that my favourite one-of-a-kind high school English teacher from days of yore has hidden talents. She makes these one-of-a-kind Diddums dolls. She’s also a singer, which I didn’t know. Singing, stitching, Shakespeare – what a combination.

Two more sleeps

May 4, 2010 / By Madame Dent / Make a comment

Ball and Skittle opens in two days. It is very exciting. The mesdames have had the great fortune of designing for good friend, supermum and energiser bunny Clara Jane and look forward to toasting the arrival of her brand new store for children. Ball and Skittle will sell thoughtful wares of whimsy for curious lads and lassies – sourcing children’s toy, gift and home wares that are good for imaginations, good for growing bodies, good for the environment and good for the future happiness of the world.

Opening Thursday May 6th, with three days of play – oodles of activites for kids including fire engine rides, face painting, balloons, sweet treats and prizes with funds raised going to the Starlight Children’s Foundation. Help Ball and Skittle raise a Starlight Wish for a seriously ill child. Details of the Our Wish for Starlight Event can be found here.

The Sylvanians

April 19, 2010 / By Madame Mitchell / 1 comment

Mademoiselle Michelle just mentioned the Sylvanians and I’ve had a total flashback to the 80′s. My sister and I had the Thistlethorn Family and the Timbertop Family, along with the house where the lights really worked. Apparently they are collectors items now, if only we had kept them.

First Muji make the ridiculously adorable London in a Bag blocks, then House Industries make Girard alphabet and Eames House blocks, and now Pen Pencil Stencil has made these crazy cool Kokeshi blocks for us to play with. What’s my age again?

Lad&Lass

Let us preface this post with a Mitchell & Dent design disclaimer… in our other lives as brand boffins Studio Bomba, we are so fortunate to work with energiser bunny Clara Jane. Not only is she the mother of a one year old, but she has single-handedly established not one, but two, brand new businesses.

Lad & Lass creates artworks and interiors products as shown above, wholly designed and manufactured in Western Australia. Ball and Skittle is an online emporium that carefully sources children’s play, gift and home wares that are good for imaginations, good for growing bodies, good for the environment and good for the future happiness of the world. Good for Christmas too, I’d say.
