These delightful little vessels are bud vases. They are made by Cynthia Vardhan. In fact, I’d be inclined to say they are so darn pretty they shouldn’t be sullied by that single-stemmed rosebud your cheap-ass boy bought you from the man with the green plastic bucket and the red-devil teddies while you were sharing a honey chicken and salt and pepper squid at Uncle Billy’s. But that’s just me.

There is no-one who loves paper more than we do here at Mitchell & Dent. Oh heck, yes there is. Have you seen the ridiculousness of Cuban-born USA-based Elsa Mora‘s work? We have long been fans of her papercut pieces and her paintings and her miniature books and her illustration and her handmade dolls and almost everything she touches. We love her story and we’d like to meet her and have a cup of tea with her. And ask her how on earth she finds the patience to make extraordinary things like these teeny titchy little papercut rings.

The mesdames are not minimalists, in fact we are probably maximalists. We are very fond of knick-knacks, bric-a-brac, gewgaws and gimcracks. Bits and pieces, odds and ends, Oxford commas, and using five words when one would do. The mesdames like music, they are partial to a toe-tapping beat and a jaunty lyric. Sometimes, however, they are shocked and appalled by the unsuitability of the album art. How nice would it be to revisit some album covers and reimagine them? Just ask Andrew Kolb, who remade the The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds album cover as part of the 33.3 Art Show. Madame Mitchell and Madame Dent cannot believe it is February already. They have big ideas for 2011, but best get a wriggle on if the year insists on slipping away like this.
