I think you know by now that when we go all quiet on the tittle tattle front, it means that Mitchell & Dent are making things. Big things. And this one’s a doozy. So, you know Mitchell & Dent is a Studio Bomba initiative right? Studio Bomba is the little design engine that drives all of the things we do – things like M&D, First Comes Love Bridal Fair and our work for other people’s brands too.
Well, now there is a Studio Bomba Shop. A bricks and mortar shop in Oxford Street that peddles stationery, artwares and designery knick-knacks. You can come see the Mitchell & Dent stationery (without having to make an appointment) and lots of local and overseas deliciousness that only the Bomba shop stocks. We think it is worth a visit (but we might be biased).
Oh, and by the way, how lovely are these images by our studio-mate Nic Montagu?

Why do we love Perth? We were asked this very important question by We Love Perth this week and if you’re wondering what we were going on about when we said there is an igloo in Kewdale, well here it is. See? How awesome is that? (Thanks for the pics Google Maps.)

Yes, we are most definitely big fans of Bethamy Linton and her work. Mitchell & Dent spent a delightful day out at yesterday’s Wedding Upmarket right next door to Bethamy, chitchatting away, sharing cupcakes, gazing at glorious views, oh – and showing our wares to peeps planning weddings. Bethamy is a fourth generation silversmith who has a studio in the Swan Valley and while all of her work is something special, we were blown away by her silver and lace fans (boom tish).

Perth is a tricky little town for designers. Sometimes the folks that dig things out of the ground do not dig design as much as we do. But we love it here. And we don’t want to leave. So where does that leave us? Well, for Mitchell & Dent, that means ganging up with a bunch of other creative types and showing Western Australia what we’ve got. Here is just a teeny little snippet of the wedding wonderfulness on show this weekend at the first ever First Comes Love bridal fair. It is a carefully curated, design-orientated, sweet and sassy little affair with independent exhibitors, a photo gallery, on the floor fashion, live music, sweet treats and a hair and makeup lounge (book yourself a trial here). Come join?

And then comes marriage. In case you missed our none-too-subtle plugs in the last post, Mitchell & Dent are making First Comes Love – an alternative little bridal fair here in Perth. We’re excited and anxious and in awe of the amazing folks taking part. We’re just mentioning it again because we’ve made a Facebook page and if you know anyone planning on getting hitched and looking for wedding wonderfulness in Perth, you’re welcome to go right ahead and invite them to the event. Off you pop now.

Should you have heard high-pitched girlie squeals of delight this afternoon, the kind that curls toes and causes puppies to cower in fear, then we’ll take the blame. But we have a damn good excuse. We discovered Her Handpicked Harvest online. AND they are from Perth. They are the go-to folks for fine vintage collectibles and curios, all available for hire for celebrations such as I-do’s and I-don’t-want-to-turn-[insert age here]‘s.

Now that we’ve plonked a pretty catchy Blur tune in your brain, let us tell you about Laurelville while you whistle your own backing track to the narration to follow. It is a big and beautiful house in York, Western Australia and you can stay there or even get hitched there; surrounded by loveliness and luxury, lofty ceilings, ornate timber staircases, open fireplaces, fragrant gardens, sweeping views. Sleep under Bemboka blankets of angora and super-fine merino wool or steep in a claw-foot bath of bubbles. It is a Mitchell & Dent kind of place. Just add Pimms.

Goodness, there are some clever little retailers emerging on the Perthscape. You may remember the delightful Jess and Jayden from B&M Felt? They had a pop-up shop in Fremantle, but now the news we’ve been waiting for – a much more permanent flagship store has just opened. And in time for the jingle season too. Goodie.

Fleur Schell is one clever little cookie. She is a ceramic artist maker and the Founding Director of SODA Studios in North Fremantle. She has worked all over the world and her pieces are held in collections near and far. We’re particularly fond of her most recent series The Excellent Adventures of Heidi, narrative pieces in porcelain inspired by her daughter. We take great pride in joining Fleur at SODA Gift 2010 this weekend, an invitational exhibition showcasing works by four ceramic artists from SODA and four invited guests including, you guessed it, Mitchell & Dent. Why not come along?
Open 10am to 6pm
Saturday 27th and Sunday 28 November 2010
