Toe to toe

October 21, 2010 / By Mademoiselle Michelle / Make a comment

On the subject of shoes and dancing, I am on the hunt for the perfect pair of pumps as I have two weddings to attend on the same day. Two of my favourite couples are tying the knot this Saturday, so said shoes will be required to take me from church, to the beach and onto the dance-floor. Here’s hoping they will be just as adorable as these Watching the Clock Heels from ModCloth.

Please be seated

October 5, 2010 / By Madame Dent / Make a comment

Trine Thorsen is a photographer and lives in Norway. I stumbled across her website when I was looking for chairs online. Let me tell you, it is a silly and disheartening place to look for chairs when you live in Perth and have elderly house guests arriving and need four nice new dining chairs stat. I’m not sure I can achieve what Trine does in these images by dinner time this evening. Still.

You muppet

September 13, 2010 / By Madame Dent / Make a comment

In the Mitchell & Dent studio, we discuss important things while we are working. Things like, “which muppet do you most resemble?”, being sure to make the important distinction between The Muppet Show and Sesame Street. Our SS conclusions? Mademoiselle Michelle is as sweet and smart as Prairie Dawn, Little Miss Fliss is organised and particular and a lover of purple like Telly Monster, Madame Dent is a klutz and a bumbler and a ditherer so Grover it is, Madame Mitchell could only be Big Bird (tee hee) and Mister Clifford, printer extraordinaire, is the voice of all reason – Kermit. We may buy him this artwork by Castle in Sydney, makers of embroidered artworks and brilliant bed linen. So, which muppet are you?

Eighties child

Channel your inner eighties child – think ra-ra skirts and rollerskates, blue light discos and mix tapes (on cassette of course), pastels and prettiness. This brand new Mitchell & Dent print by Mademoiselle Michelle might help too.

If you’re looking for old-school mid-century glamour but can’t afford to run away to get married at The Parker, why not opt for a little Palm Springs style in your own home town? Honeycomb is the perfect wedding stationery suite for couples who wish to channel their inner Audrey and Cary and can be found on the Mitchell & Dent website, in our newest catalogue or in a sample pack available in our little online shop.

One green bottle

May 17, 2010 / By Madame Dent / 2 comments

So. Here at M&D we are completely addicted to Pinterest (more about that in the days to come), but this is how the wonderful web works… the very clever Dana Hughes, interior designer in Sydney and creator of the inspirational design blog Yellow Trace (go! see!), posted these amazing hand blown glass bottles by New York designer Elizabeth Lyons on Pinterest and we fell in love with them and posted them for you to see. We love the internets.

Slim dandy

May 2, 2010 / By Madame Dent / 1 comment

When I was 12, my family went to see Slim Dusty at the Narrogin Agricultural Town Hall. I got his autograph. And despite the obvious genius of a man who sings ‘The Pub With No Beer’, I suspect that even then I would have much preferred meeting Slim Aarons, US photographer to the rich and beautiful. He’s actually been to Acapulco as opposed to just seeing it on The Love Boat. I’d happily spend a moment or two at the Linsk house circa 1970 (designed by Neutra no less), even if I had to wear a white lace pantsuit.

Spring has sprung

March 31, 2010 / By Madame Dent / 1 comment

On the other side of the world to us, but clearly Madame Mitchell is not ready to let the warm weather go and face autumn. She has made these wonderful prints of her original ink and graphite artworks on tea-stained paper available through our little online shop Mitchell & Dent. Mind you, Madame Dent is just a little concerned about what kind of shampoo Madame Mitchell uses.

Goodbye mimosa, hello turquoise

March 5, 2010 / By Madame Dent / Make a comment

It seems Mitchell & Dent is soooo 2009, now that Pantone 55-5519 Turquoise has been named the 2010 Colour of the Year. Poor old Pantone 14-0848 Mimosa, your time in the sun is over. Shame, I’ve always liked yellow.
