Maisie

July 13, 2011 / By The Mesdames / 1 comment

This is Maisie. She is a bicycle (well, duh). More than that, she is a bicycle made from bamboo. Yes. Bamboo. Not just for pandas. She was made by Mik in Melbourne who is exploring renewable, beautiful, functional alternatives to your bike-building norm. You can even see how she is faring 1500km on. Quite the little bamboo beauty, is Maisie. We like her.

The fête of fêtes

March 25, 2011 / By The Mesdames / Make a comment

We recently hawked our Mitchell & Dent wares at the Kyilla Primary School Fête and omigoodness, were we flabbergasted by the fundraising efforts of the folks involved. It was incredible. The fête and coinciding Celebrity Book Auction (40-odd celebs including the likes of Dawn French, Julia Gillard and Tim Minchin donated books, no less) raised something like twenty thousand dollars. It sure did make the soggy sandwiches, toffee cups, chocolate wheels and kewpie dolls of our childhood fêtes pale in comparison. It was the fête equivalent of super-charged kewpies with extra added cuteness, a bit like the ones from The Little Dröm Store.

Emily Martin of The Black Apple is a curiosity peddler and a picture scribbler and the maker of this delightful doll of many doodads and disguises. Haven’t you always wanted to be a bandit or a bear?

Crafty

For crafty folks who are nifty with a needle, you might get a little thrill out of Ume Craft‘s shop of patterns for felt plush. In the shape of foods. How funny is felt food? That, and William Shatner singing Cee Lo Green’s ‘Fuck You’.

Dancing shoes

October 15, 2010 / By Little Miss Fliss / 4 comments

I am sorely tempted to purchase a pair of these from Finnish folks Company. Missy Fliss Junior loves nothing better than to so see her Grandpa rock and roll at the local tavern on a Friday night and she bops around the dance floor with Mummy Miss Fliss. However, I do wonder if we can jive in them?

But only if you want to look very silly (and a little bit cute). Crocheted bear ear headphone covers, what every girl needs.

Sit on it

Mesdames Mitchell and Dent are soon to become aunties. And like all childless aunties we will most probably end up buying perfectly pretty, but pretty impractical, presents for our new neice/s and/or nephew/s. What’s function got to do with it, when the form is as good as this junior Lampert sofa by Jonathan Adler? Baby sick? Leaking nappies? Sticky fingers? Not an auntie’s concern. And just wait until they’re four and we buy them finger paints and kiddie drumkits.

For lovers of music on vinyl, clocks with hands and shoes with laces – meet the Retrovelo Classic Series. There may be a lack of baskets, streamers and spokey dokes, but I’m sure you’ll agree that folks with a fondness for days gone by won’t be able to resist these sweet rides. Available in Australia from Kronan Cycles.

Hapa Culture

July 15, 2010 / By Mademoiselle Michelle / 2 comments

I remember the first time my dear friend Miss Marie first showed me her eraser collection. She poured the contents of a 40 litre bin onto her living room floor and we spent hours rummaging through mini hamburgers, kittens and soccer balls. I’m not quite sure I should introduce her to the wonder of Hapa Culture. I’m afraid it will only feed her addiction.

Take me out

June 24, 2010 / By Madame Dent / Make a comment

Apologies to all who I am about to offend – I don’t know anything about baseball, have very little desire to know anything about baseball, and could barely keep a straight face last night when I caught two US commentators on Channel Go discussing the merits of the new hotdogs added to the Phillies ballpark hotdog stands. I do however, quite like this handmade ball from Bergino. It has a map on it. And their brandmark is lovely. Feel free to complain about me… now.
