I think you know by now that when we go all quiet on the tittle tattle front, it means that Mitchell & Dent are making things. Big things. And this one’s a doozy. So, you know Mitchell & Dent is a Studio Bomba initiative right? Studio Bomba is the little design engine that drives all of the things we do – things like M&D, First Comes Love Bridal Fair and our work for other people’s brands too.

Well, now there is a Studio Bomba Shop. A bricks and mortar shop in Oxford Street that peddles stationery, artwares and designery knick-knacks. You can come see the Mitchell & Dent stationery (without having to make an appointment) and lots of local and overseas deliciousness that only the Bomba shop stocks. We think it is worth a visit (but we might be biased).

Mesdames Mitchell & Dent are very fond of a fiesta, a shindig, a soirée – even a sundowner. And whilst we disapprove of being invited by text, we don’t think every bash warrants bespoke letterpress stationery. DIY can be most delightful, so here’s some we prepared earlier… lovely invitations in little packs of 8, envelopes all included. Sometimes people make things so frickin awesome you just want to spit. On them. And go back in time. And steal their idea. (And go mwah mwah mwah. And dream up dastardly deeds for further evil-doing. Go get your diaries out. Sharpen your pencil. Mark down Sunday September 25 between 2 and 4pm. You now have a previous engagement of the awesome-est kind. Art, ink, prints by lowbrow artists from near and far (including our own Madame Dent) all in honour of the itty bitty little printing machine invented in 1977 in Japan – the GOCCO. You can even see one in action with a live demo during Outskirts (thanks to Ruck Rover and Outré Gallery).

There is no-one who loves paper more than we do here at Mitchell & Dent. Oh heck, yes there is. Have you seen the ridiculousness of Cuban-born USA-based Elsa Mora‘s work? We have long been fans of her papercut pieces and her paintings and her miniature books and her illustration and her handmade dolls and almost everything she touches. We love her story and we’d like to meet her and have a cup of tea with her. And ask her how on earth she finds the patience to make extraordinary things like these teeny titchy little papercut rings.

First Comes Love is done and dusted and we’re back to our everyday design lives, part of which means checking in on blogs we’ve neglected (it’s called research, honest). Two things for you today – let’s start with Scout’s Honor Co. – a lovely designer-stationer with a lovely studio in Vermont and a lovely blog. You’ll love it. Also, a great find of Annemarie’s – General’s Charcoal White pencils which look just like chalk on a blackboard. So, if like us, you’re a little daunted of the endless possibilities of a blank white piece of paper (we choose kraft), they’re a nice option.

We’re a little late. OK, we’re a lot late. There is no time at all to pop in to the Mitchell & Dent studio or the little online shop and pick up one of these cards for your yummy mummy before Sunday. Besides, we’re not really sure a piece of paper, no matter how lovely Madame Mitchell’s illustrations are, cuts it anyway – surely the woman who squeezed you out of her nether regions, tied your shoelaces, kissed away those falling-off-the-bicycle tears, replaced your dead goldfish/guineapig/hermitcrab so you wouldn’t be upset, helped you with your homework even though she had no clue, kept quiet about how much she hated that boyfriend with the tattoos, snuck you extra cash when your first job earned you a pittance – surely she deserves an actual cup of tea and a chitchat. Happy Mothers Day, M&D mums!
