Going, going, almost gone

February 10, 2011 / By The Mesdames / 2 comments

As you know, we’ve been rabbiting on (boom, tish) about being a part of the Australian and New Zealand leg of the Diana World Tour, which has now travelled to Tokyo, Seoul, Porto, Lisbon, Madrid, Barcelona, Berlin, Paris, Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, New York City, Los Angeles, Riga, London, Sydney and opens in Melbourne Feb 24 and Auckland March 18.

If you’re not able to make it to see the Customised Clones Exhibition in person, don’t fret. You can bid on them online with the proceeds going to charity, but you’d best be quick, only three days left.

A small sample of the goodness you may wish to bid on is shown above, by artists (from L-R, top to bottom) Gemma Jones, Scrap Wall, Greedy Hen, Limedrop, Cat-Rabbit, Beci Orpin, Eveline Tarunadjaja, Mel Stringer and Angela Mitchell & Leah Dent.

Customised Clones on eBay

*Stay tuned folks, we had an e-mail from the Lomo team today to say something went nutso with eBay last night and a bunch of the listings disappeared. They’re working hard to get it all sorted. We’ll keep you informed.

We know a girl who just gave her notice in order to spend more time getting noticed for what she does best. You too can be noticed in notable vintage from The Vintage Valley. Congrats and good luck Ally.

What goes on tour

January 25, 2011 / By The Mesdames / 2 comments

So exciting, our mesdames Angela Mitchell and Leah Dent were invited by Lomography Australia / New Zealand to contribute to a leg of the Diana World Tour 2011. We may have given you a sneak peek, do you remember? Along with inspirational artists including friends and faves such as Gemma Jones, Beci Orpin, Cat-RabbitGhostpatrol and Eveline Tarunadjaja to name a few, our bunnycam will be one of 25 shown in Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland as part of the Customised Clones Exhibition. Importantly – and listen up now  – they will all be auctioned online to raise funds for See Through Me and World Child Cancer. Bidding starts February 3rd, we’ll be sure to keep you updated.

Now open

December 22, 2010 / By Madame Dent / 2 comments

Goodness, there are some clever little retailers emerging on the Perthscape. You may remember the delightful Jess and Jayden from B&M Felt? They had a pop-up shop in Fremantle, but now the news we’ve been waiting for – a much more permanent flagship store has just opened. And in time for the jingle season too. Goodie.

Be-hold

November 23, 2010 / By The Mesdames / 4 comments

The mesdames do occasionally step away from the letterpress and explore other media. If you were wondering what type of things Mitchell & Dent have to show at this weekend’s SODA Gift 2010 exhibition, here is a little sneaky peek of one of Leah Dent’s acrylic on ply paintings. And there’s more where that came from. You’ll just have to come visit – details in the post before last.

In the window

I cannot drive down Stirling Highway in Mosman Park without wanting to glance at views like this. It is possible I’ve spent so long gawking that people have beeped at me. Hunters and Collectors is pure modernist eye-candy and is now available for gazing at in a safer way on Facebook. One day I might even be able to buy something. Into my arms, I wish.

It’s a gift

Fleur Schell is one clever little cookie. She is a ceramic artist maker and the Founding Director of SODA Studios in North Fremantle. She has worked all over the world and her pieces are held in collections near and far. We’re particularly fond of her most recent series The Excellent Adventures of Heidi, narrative pieces in porcelain inspired by her daughter. We take great pride in joining Fleur at SODA Gift 2010 this weekend, an invitational exhibition showcasing works by four ceramic artists from SODA and four invited guests including, you guessed it, Mitchell & Dent. Why not come along?

Open 10am to 6pm
Saturday 27th and Sunday 28 November 2010
1/98 Stirling Highway, North Fremantle

A trundle in tweed

November 12, 2010 / By Madame Dent / Make a comment

No lycra for the ladies of letterpress. If we go bicycling, we like to do it in style. Our most favourite missive on manners (‘Manners for Women’ written in 1897 by the ‘Madge’ of Truth, Mrs Humphry) has a whole chapter on the etiquette of bicycling. Mrs Humphry warns young women that the bicycle is responsible for much promiscuous acquaintanceship, which she no doubt disapproves of. I am sure however, that Mrs Humphry would very much approve of tomorrow’s Tweed Run. Visit Dismantle to register now.
