Holiday frocks

January 11, 2011 / By Madame Dent / 2 comments

I bought a dress on my holiday and it is in a fabric called Holiday. That is it there in the middle. It has pictures on it of other people enjoying their holiday, with palm trees and sun umbrellas and little pink flowers (and I’m assuming passionfruit gelato with white nectarines and strawberries). The Holiday frock is from Lazybones, how appropriate. They make these dresses in sizes XS to XXL. Holiday, *sigh*. We are no longer on holiday. Just saying.

I resolve to

January 10, 2011 / By Madame Dent / Make a comment

Happy new year all. I don’t know about you, but I’m not foolish enough to make new year’s resolutions such as I resolve to lose half my body weight or I resolve to drink less gin and eat less cheese or I resolve to buy less silly things like cute shoes and more sensible things like insurance. In fact, I’ve pretty much blown all three of those already. I might, however, adopt a few from Motherland’s To Resolve Project as my own. Just the prettiest ones, of course. My iPhone thanks you and your illustrator friends Chris Steger.

The silly season

December 24, 2010 / By Madame Dent / Make a comment

Well, we’re pooped. It is past midnight and Mademoiselle Michelle is finally finishing off her last website for the year, Madame Mitchell is emptying her inbox and this is indeed the last post for a wee while. Even Little Miss Fliss is telling us to go home via Facebook. Only Mister Clifford is tucked up safe in bed (we think). We do love our work but are looking forward to taking a wee break.

We wish you all wonder and joy, good times drinking good wine with good people and the happiest of holidays from M&D. Cheers!

Now open

December 22, 2010 / By Madame Dent / 2 comments

Goodness, there are some clever little retailers emerging on the Perthscape. You may remember the delightful Jess and Jayden from B&M Felt? They had a pop-up shop in Fremantle, but now the news we’ve been waiting for – a much more permanent flagship store has just opened. And in time for the jingle season too. Goodie.

Dress for dinner

December 16, 2010 / By Madame Dent / Make a comment

Aaah, Very Purple Person, I get it. These ridiculously adorable cotton dresses that you make have something very important in common. They’re all ideal for the silly season, when a seventeen rumball dessert course is nothing out of the ordinary. You let our ballooning bellies be beautifully disguised. How sweet of you.

Tasty toasty

Allira Tee is from Melbourne and makes me giggle. I like these brooches (of course, because I like all brooches), but she is also an expert in the art of tea towel snapping. Not many people can say that with any authority.

Ten days

December 15, 2010 / By Madame Dent / Make a comment

When our friend, the very lovely Jessica Shaver (go peek), said there is only ten days until Christmas we told her to take it back. Bum. No time then, to order delicious little decos like these ones from Folksy. No excuse though not to be merry and bright.

Who’s the Bosse?

December 6, 2010 / By Madame Dent / 3 comments

Excuse the little lull in posts but yours truly has been at home with a monster sniffle, moaning about bad daytime telly and staring at the walls. If only I had more things to look at, like these brill bronzes by Walter Bosse and his missus Herta Baller. If you can’t find the midcentury originals, don’t fret. They are still being made in a sleepy snowy town on the Austrian-Hungarian border. Hurrah Modern Vienna Bronzes!

In the window

November 23, 2010 / By Madame Dent / 2 comments

I cannot drive down Stirling Highway in Mosman Park without wanting to glance at views like this. It is possible I’ve spent so long gawking that people have beeped at me. Hunters and Collectors is pure modernist eye-candy and is now available for gazing at in a safer way on Facebook. One day I might even be able to buy something. Into my arms, I wish.
