Blast from the past

Sasek

Ever seen something you had forgotten you ever knew about and it opens up some crazy trapdoor to the past? I recently spotted the re-issue of ‘This is London’ by Czech illustrator Miroslav Sasek in Distracted and was transported back in time. I loved this book. Almost as much as my little pink purse with the stuck-on white beads. And my Viewmaster reel of Yogi Bear. And my Spirograph set. And my Holly Hobby pillowcase… see what I mean?

  • I’m a sceret hoarder of this illustrators work.. I have an original This is Australia that I bought for 50p at a “Cats Protection” op shop in England. And I have a couple of original french versions – you should come and have a look in the studio the original colours are even more amazing than the new repros!

Oooh. I would love to see the originals sometime. I’m sure my This is London book died a sad grubby-fingered, well-thumbed, biscuit-crumbed death before I hit double figures in age.
